Join us for the opening on Friday April 10th, 2026 between 5 - 8 pm.

Sticky tongue, detail
Tongue! A sticky tongue infected with saliva and drool, anger and frustration, systems that resist, the lack of the right language. Here, it appears systematised with sharp edges and abject stuff like hair, dust and nails moulded into the surface. Bits and pieces you try to hide away but that continuously reappear no matter how much you twist, shape and turn your tongue. Kissing teeth.
The mango peel, preserved and retained. The artist's memories of the fruit that her father introduced to her and which inevitably became the symbol of his homeland Trinidad and Tobago. A fruit that contains a prehistory that is otherwise only evoked through her father's sporadic stories. Mythical and mysterious. The sweet fruit that does not only taste sweet.
In her artistic practice, Laura Guiseppi often uses the body as an image that can illuminate structurally based societal problems. For example, access to health systems and social services, and the stigmatisation that can follow. By zooming in and upscaling the body's interior, the uterus, the tongue or the regulating medicine and tools that can assist the body to perform optimally, Guiseppi creates works that initially appear pop, light and attractive but often contain a duality that brings to mind the exact opposite.

Sticky tongue. 2026. Aluminium, paint, resin, stuff. 173 x 20 x 10 cm
